As far as I know they do not have any particular meaning. I think they were just wonderful Christmas decorations woven with colored basket type materials. I don’t remember seeing them around Oaxaca, but now I will search. Handmade decorations are starting to appear on the streets – I bought a beautiful corn husk wreath with three poinsettias made of corn husks dyed red.
